The construction of a new worship center offered the Greenville Free Methodist Church an opportunity to rejuvenate its ministry to the community as well as the potential to offer new ministries. Unfortunately their new building and parking lot also increased the impervious surface area and required a stormwater detention basin to comply with Illinois EPA regulations. Specialized Ecological Services coordinated with the Church’s engineers and volunteer workers to create a stormwater basin and natural area that will offer fishing, nature trails, picnic areas, and prayer gardens. Specialized Ecological Services also included provisions to insure accessibility to the natural areas for persons with disabilities. Finally, with input from our staff, the Church’s basin will not only satisfy environmental regulations and ministry needs, but it will also be attractive to wildlife.
